Thuja will grow well in most soils but does best in wet soils and grows fine in sun or shade. Thuja Plicata Atroviren is a variety of Thuja that has variagated foliage and so a prettier look than the plain Thuja Plicata.

We grow Thuja both in the ground an in pots so pop us an email to see what is in stock. We are happy to advise as to where Thuja would work best in your garden and how it compares to other instant hedging options.Plants at this height would be dug by hand and a hessian tied round the root-ball to protect the root system. The foliage is also tied.

Cherry Laurel (Prunus Laurocerasus Rotundifolia) is another good option for instant hedging being initially typically more dense than Leylandii. Laurel gives a nicer look than Leylandii when trimmed into a hedge and so is often a favorite for gardens where great height isn’t required. Cherry Laurel hedging was introduced from Eastern Europe in 1576 and is now natural over lots of the UK. It won’t thrive in shallow or chalky soil. Laurel is also one of those hedging plants that can be trimmed back to bare wood (in fact, down to ground level!) and will still grow up and thrive!

Our Laurel in this height range are grown in pots on our nursery in 45 litre pots. All of the plants are measured from the top of the pot giving you maximum height for your money. We can also supply these plants rootballed.

Cupressocyparis Leylandii (Leyland Cypress) is the ultimate hedging plant and grows the fastest of any hedging plant in the U.K. putting on up to 3’ (1m) per year. Though a fast grower, Leylandii is still manageable and, when trimmed once a year or so, creates a very presentable screen which is better than any other evergreen hedge for bonding together and blocking out sight, wind and even sound.

Our Leylandii in this height range are grown in pots on our nursery and are all heights are measured from the top of the pot. The two main pot sizes for this stock are 11 litre pots and 45 litre pots.

Yew will make a very pleasing and tidy hedge when cared for instantly adding value to a new built. Yew also make lovely specimen plants and are very popular for topiary projects as they will fill out however you trim them. These plants are grown in the ground on our nursery. Plants at this height would be dug by hand and a hessian tied round the root-ball to protect the root system. The foliage is also tied.
